Puppy notes, part 1

IMG_2315Pheeuw, puppysitting sure is hard work. Had to steal a few moments from my duties while our “baby” Nessie sleeps under the kitchen table, because judging by yesterday, soon enough we’ll be up-and-running again. It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a puppy in the house, so must admit I’d forgotten what hard work it is. Still, it really is a blast just watching her play. Such energy and joy in every movement. But it remains to be seen whether we’ll appreciate that energy quite so much if (or rather: when) it’s directed towards chair legs or dad’s handmade Italian shoes…

But so far she’s behaved very well. Didn’t really like the car-ride home but once we got here, she was ok. Happy to explore her new surroundings and no trouble eating: all the food served was greatly enjoyed, and disappeared fast. Our previous dogs have been relatively poor eaters and sometimes rather picky, but that doesn’t seem to be a problem with Nessie. Her feisty appetite corresponds well with what we’d heard about labs. During her first day she also displayed a keen interest towards everything that went on in the kitchen, so we’ll probably have to rearrange the food cupboards and place everything eatable at safe heights.

IMG_2320Her first night was spent downstairs with my eldest daughter. I slept in the room next to them just to be on the safe side, in case Nessie had kept everyone awake. But surprisingly enough, she didn’t. She slept quietly all through the night and only got up a couple of times to chew on some of her toys. Early in the morning I went in to take her out and she was jumping with joy to see me – in a wonderfully puppylike fashion. Oh, bliss…
