I loaded some heavy stuff on you guys yesterday. Got upset from hearing that lecture and our family surely hasn’t come up with the perfect solution for childcare. Still searching, probably just like the rest of you. Some days are better than others. Some places are better than others.
Obviously we all want what’s best for our kids. But we also want a life of our own – and more often, we don’t even have a choice because it’s a question of getting food on the table and paying that mortgage every month.
Most kids probably do ok anyway and of course there’s more to being a parent than just staying at home. While there, you need to be present and to interact with your child. And anybody who’s spent time at home with the kids knows how easy it is to “slip away” mentally, and be somewhere else. The question is whether being away physically or mentally is more harmful? The jury’s still out on that one.
